taxco (pronounced as 'tass-co') is about 1 1/2 hours to the south-west of cuernavaca. it's already part of the federal state of 'guerrero', of which acapulco is the capital. taxco is most generaly known as the silver-city. at this time, there are no mines left around taxco, but the art of jewelery making is very highly developped. the most important sight in the town is the cathedral.

all the parts of the inside of the cathedral are very much overloaded with golden altars.

the town is perfectly located on the slopes of a hill. the very small cobble stone paved streets of taxco are unique. the narrowness of the streets ocasionaly only allows the beatle-taxis to pass through them. the beatle, as seen in this image, is very caracteristic for taxco.


the market in taxco

going north to south through the whole town, the market is an other point of atraction of taxco. one of the specialities found here, are the 'jumiles', small bugs, which are eaten alive in tortillas ore sometimes fried.
